Excuse me while I briefly diverge from my usual rambles…
The past month has been an exciting time for my husband and I. We celebrated our first year of being married, and we finalized the sale of our house in Portland, Oregon. The sale means we can finally build a house on the property we have been dreaming about building a life on. The property is in Amity, not too far from where we are currently living. The land had been grown over with blackberries and scotch broom so thick, we had to blaze trails to walk around the property. Last weekend, however, we cleared the land and have now started thinking about our strategy for where we would like to build our house and what we will do with the land. Below is a before and after picture.
In the far distance on the picture on the right, you can see a bit of white on the lefthand side. Those are our honeybees. This is their 2nd summer on this property. I can’t wait to live here so I can keep a better eye on them and expand their hive. Just beyond that box, we plan on putting a small pasture where we can raise a calf or two. Who knows, maybe someday I’ll even have a milking cow like the character Lucy in my book!
Exciting things are on the horizon! Make way! Make way!
If anyone is interested how we cleared the land, you can check out these guys: http://www.absoluteclearing.com/ The owner is a family friend. With my dad’s help, and no burning needed, they cleared almost 5 acres in one weekend!
