In the spring of 2014 I found out I was pregnant with twins. I have been documenting my journey weekly but haven’t posted anything here till now. I will be periodically posting these thoughts, starting from the beginning. This was written June 10, 2014.
It’s a boy! And a Girl!
This past week we got the long-awaited news that would determine whether our future would be encompassed with bows and dolls or dirt and trucks. It turns out, our lives will be filled with both! It’s a boy! And a girl!
Prior to finding out the genders, we had two sets of names picked out, ready for any combo. Whenever their sweet faces decide to appear, we will be welcoming Karson and Lucy.
Karson is the name of my brother who died of brain cancer over six years ago. Karson was a spirited but gentle soul, funny, daring and cherished by everyone who had the opportunity to know him. Naming our son Karson is one more way to keep my brother’s spirit alive.
Picking our girl’s name was easy too. I dreamed of having a little girl named Lucy ever since I was in sixth grade when I first discovered that black-and-white TV show on Nick at Night. Lucy is also the name of one of Nate’s great aunts. He has fond memories of going to her house after school where she’d make him milkshakes and hamburgers.
Knowing the genders and giving them names takes us one step closer to making this all feel real. I’m feeling them kick and move around a lot more, a comforting reassurance they are alive and well. On my way to work this morning, I was belting a song out with the radio and I felt some pretty good jolts. Either they were dancing or they didn’t like my singing!
The past week has been great and I feel like I’m finally starting to get the hang of this whole being pregnant thing. I have finally learned and accepted my physical limits and my body is thanking me. I also started training my replacement at work and she’s fantastic. I have a huge sense of relief knowing that I’m leaving my job in good hands and I can now take some of my focus off work and direct it towards preparing for my babes.
Summer and all it’s abundance is upon us. Our garden is growing, our family is growing and our hearts are full of a deep, heartfelt, grateful love.
