In the spring of 2014 I found out I was pregnant with twins and started documenting my journey in a weekly post. I will be periodically posting these past writings, starting from the beginning. This was written July 15, 2014.
I finished my last days of work in the hot, hot sun. I then found relief, spending a night at the beach cooling down with Nate and my parents. On Sunday I think we reached a high of 63 degrees! We enjoyed some walks on the beach, fish and chips, a little antiquing and of course a little shopping for the babies.
It’s still sinking in that I’m all done with work. Yesterday, I got my final paycheck and turned in my keys. Now that I’ll have a little more time on my hands, I’ve been shifting my focus from researching things like what kind of stroller to get to learning labor techniques and the process of birthing. It’s all pretty fascinating but unless you’re in the thick of it, or at least about to be, these aren’t really subjects of study that come up often.
I’m hoping to deliver vaginally and given that Baby A, which is Karson, is head down, that can happen. Currently that is the case we’re looking at. But I was a little set back when my doctor first told me I’d be delivering in the operating room just so we can be prepared for an emergency or unexpected cesarean.
Laid on an operating table is not really how I envisioned giving birth but yesterday at my appointment I was relieved to find I will be able to labor in my birthing room and can skirt into the operating room just around the corner for the final pushing.
Now we just have to hope Karson maintains his position and I make it past 36 weeks. Of course other complications could come up but for now I’m just going to assume they won’t. At yesterday’s ultrasound Karson and Lucy were measuring at 2.4 and 2.5 pounds respectively. We got some great pictures of them. I think Karson looks like his Daddy 🙂
