In the spring of 2014 I found out I was pregnant with twins and started documenting my journey in a weekly post. I will be periodically posting these past writings, starting from the beginning. This was written November 24, 2014.
I have to give a shout out to the Emergency Room department at Willamette Valley Medical Center in Mcminnville. I had a fun little emergency reminding me that this baby weight isn’t coming off without a fight. Because of weight gain and swelling during my pregnancy, I haven’t been able to wear my wedding ring for some time now.
Every so often I try to squeeze it on in hopes that my fat fingers have come back to size but I haven’t had any luck yet.
This past Friday I thought it was close enough but I just needed a little help with some lotion. Voila! My ring slid right on. And then the panic ensued. It didn’t feel so good on and now that it was on, it was stuck. I pried and pulled but the more I tugged, my finger just got more swollen and red. I did a quick google search to find a video with ring removal instructions using the “string method.” After a quick attempt, I knew this wasn’t going to be resolved by myself alone.
Without too much hesitation since my finger was getting worse by the minute, I plopped the babies in their carseats and off to the Emergency Room we went.
Luckily, the doctor was confident he could use the “string method” and we wouldn’t need to cut it off. It took a good while to do it and my finger turned a dark shade of purple before we were done, but alas, it worked. My ring is now off my finger and we didn’t have to use the saw! Much thanks also to the wonderful nurses who rocked my babies while the doctor did their magic.
Some women report being back at pre-pregnancy weight after two or three weeks. That has not been the case for me. They say breastfeeding helps you shed the pounds but despite exclusively breastfeeding two hungry babies, it’s pretty slow going.
I wasn’t able to stay as active during my pregnancy as I would’ve liked, especially during my last trimester. But that’s all over and now I’m looking forward to getting back into an exercise routine. I recently got a stroller that allows me to go out and walk down our long gravel road. It feels great to get some exercise, fresh air and the babies love it.
I’ve got a little ways to go before my ring will fit again and the same goes for my jeans. They’ll both be there waiting for me and in the meantime, I’ll just slip into these yoga pants for just a little bit longer. Besides, it’s just about time to pass the turkey! Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I know we sure have a lot to be thankful for this year!
